The World Meteorological Organisation, founded in 1950, aims to further international cooperation, focusing on the climate, geography and hydrology.

Throughout recent history, peaks in greenhouse gas emissions have been recorded. These have been predicted to have catastrophic effects on the planet; as the ice melts and sea levels rise, islands and territories will be engulfed, creating a climate refugee crisis. Having already experienced these migration fluxes in Europe, many delegations have first hand knowledge of the problems these cause, so it is essential to plan ahead and prevent this. Furthermore, the possible ensuing consequences of these excessive emissions could include disruptions such as natural disasters, creating a sense of permanent danger wherever a person may be. This transition to a carbon neutral economy is essential for the survival of humanity and the planet itself.

Fear for the economy makes many leading nations hesitant to adopt and invest in such a drastic change. However, due to the COVID-19 crisis, the world economy is already threatened. As a means to relaunch it, nations should be incited to invest in the direction of renewable societies.

Wind causes pollution to travel. Indeed, despite the efforts of certain nations to transition to a green economy, the pollution of other countries affects everyone, because of the wind. Thus, it is everyone’s responsibility to become carbon neutral. As a means to ensure this, perhaps sanctions should be put in place for those who fail to respect agreements and treaties.
