The Security Council, founded on October 24th, 1945, is one of the 6 core branches of the United Nations. Due to the world wars, the leaders in the war felt the need to implement a specific committee treating issues regarding international security, and their meetings are specifically targeted to address crises as they occur. It is led by the five permanent members: China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The 21st century has been mined with crises of various nature. Since the attacks on the World Trade Centre in 2001, the rise of terrorism has become a major concern of the Security Coucil. It is worth noting that globalisation has also included terrorism, especially through the Internet. The importance of cybersecurity has become more relevant, especially with the development of social media and its impacts on citizens. This brings the Security Council to establish international cooperation to stop the development of terrorist networks on the Internet.. The Internet, belonging to all citizens, confers anonymity thus creating a major problem in terms of control and regulation.

The most recent crisis that took the world by surprise was the pandemic; it brought health to the forefront of world priorities. Therefore, the Security Council has now demanded urgent action. The delegates of FerMUN will therefore debate on the topic of: Social protection in times of crisis: the urgency of achieving universal health coverage. As a means to achieve this, the Security Council incites the investment into these health sectors to provide cheap healthcare yet as efficient. Furthermore, education remains a key factor in this system, as it is necessary to continuously form new personnel to a high level.
