The Historical Security Council is a committee that conducts debates according to the rules of the Security Council, albeit on subjects that have taken place at an earlier date. This committee met at FerMUN for the first time this year and dealt with two very different topics, though both with strong historical impacts.

Prevent and mitigate the spread of the COVID-19.

The year 2020 was strongly affected by the emergence of an infectious disease: COVID-19. First found in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, the virus spread at an accelerated rate, bringing the world's population to its knees. This pandemic has had a considerable impact on various sectors such as the economy, the society and the environment, and has forced governments to actively seek preventive solutions in order to limit its spread. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a list of measures to be adopted to protect oneself from the disease, such as screening tests, taking people's temperature in public spaces and, at the height of the pandemic, the confinement of the population. The committee therefore looked at new possible solutions to best mitigate the spread of the virus.

The Year 1967: The 6 Day War and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

On June 5, 1967, Israel seized East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Syrian Golan Heights and the Egyptian Sinai, thus triggering the so-called Six-Day War against Egypt, Syria and Jordan. The death toll is terribly high comparably to the short duration of the conflict: about 779 dead and 2,593 wounded on the Israeli side, plus 21,500 dead and 45,000 wounded on the defeated side. Even today the outcomes of this war influence the geopolitics of the region, tensions persist and the question of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains unresolved despite international efforts. The Historical Security Council will therefore debate on the best way to resolve the dispute and guarantee peace between the two factions.
